The Boqueria, or Mercat de San Josep, is the most famous and ancient market in Catalunya and it has more than 300 stalls.
It was created at the beginning of the 17th century in the Plaza de la Boqueria (which is a little square in front of the market).
In the original place of the original Convento of San Josep today we can find the market; that is why it brings its name.
After the destruction of the convent, a square with a colonnade was built so the market was moved within.
Originally it was an open-air market, later on in 1840 was built a roof to cover the area.
Today the Boqueria is a market where you can find different types of food and it is an attraction for people all over the world.
Throught the decases trades from different countries have provided products from their original land.
