The Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi

The origin of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi dates back to the 5th century.

During the economic development which took place under the domination of the Aragonesi at the beginning of the 14th century, the original church started to be renewed.

It is a gothic church located in Plaza del Pi; the central nave appears totally bare.

The facade of the Basilica offers a big rose-window, under which a gothic arch opens.

The gable is divided into three areas.

A statue of the Virgin with her Child stands in the central niche.

The tower is shaped octogonally and it's 54 meters high.

The central nave has got seven cross vaults; lateral chapels are situated between the buttresses.

In the presbytery you can find the statue of the Virgin, 33 meters high, sculpted by Enric Monjo.
