The "Arc de Triomf" in Barcelona is a "Mudejàr" style building, 30 meters high, which is located between the "Passeig de Lluis Companys" and the "Passeig de Sant Joan". This is a kind of Christian style incorporating elements of Arabian origin; this mixed style has to be found just in the Iberian Peninsula. The Arc de Tionf was built by Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas on the occasion of the 1888 EXPO and it had to represent an evidence of scientific and economic progress.
The lower part of the building shows the 49 spanish provinces. It is the final target arrival destination for the Barcelona Marathon. The area around the arch is also known as a suitable location for concerts and events. The upper part is decorated with ornamental friezes and sculptures, made of articifial concrete stone of Portland. The city of Barcelona is depicted on the front and on the back of the friezes.
The so called "Park of Ciutadela" has been the only park in Barcelona for many years. It was built on the ancient grounds of the town fortress. The park is situated between the "Estaciò de França", the "Arc de Triomf", and the "Villa Olimpica" and it offers ten entries to visitors.
